Yes, there is so much that is unknowable. And we all find different explanations that we like.

Personally I don’t have an answer for what happened before the big bang because I’d rather admit that I have no clue.

I think when we say “the universe follows a set of rules” that’s a bit of an anthropomorphization. We use a “rule” or “law” to mean that some conscious entity told us what to do and we have to choose to obey it. But I think that’s really only an analogy for the way matter behaves; it’s not like the universe has some legal system which all matter decides to respect, it’s just that matter is a naturally a certain way and can only act in that way. “Why is that?” is still a valid question though, IMO.

Agreed, the problem is when we force these things on each other or conflate our theories with fact. I really didn’t even write this with any intention of changing someone’s mind. It was just kind of satisfying to link these thoughts together and have a written representation of “what I believe” all in one place.
