You didn’t hurt me — I don’t know you, so there’s nothing to take personally. Sorry for the miscommunication.

I don’t think there is any reason you would want to hurt people. But if someone who you love comes to you and says “I did everything I could to find God, but now I have to give up”, and you insist to them that they are wrong and that it’s their fault, it can hurt them because they might feel like you don’t listen to them or understand their experience — and maybe you will refuse to understand because it goes against your beliefs. That’s what hurts: when beliefs take priority over people. But I don’t think you want to hurt them, that’s why I wrote this article, so you can understand how it feels from the other side, and listen with more consideration.
