I'll admit I'm not current on what the upcoming laws are re: electric vehicles.

You're right that that would be somewhat of a transition for vandwellers but I don't know that it has to be that serious of a change.

If at some point all new cars must be electric, that would mean there'd be a much bigger volume of them which should lower the prices... and if gas cars are still allowed for some years after that, it seems like there would be an abundance of used cars still available. Let's imagine the last gas car is made in 2025. You wouldn't have to buy it new... you could use your current car until 2030 and then buy the 2025 car at used car prices, I'd think.

Also, really any car can be made to last indefinitely if you're willing to keep fixing whatever's wrong :) A lot of vandwellers believe in using older vehicles (pre-computer) for the ease of repairs.

I know other vandwellers who are quite excited for the electric van options that should be available sometime soon, as they offer a number of advantages (eg. a massive built-in house battery and the ability to use solar panels to partially fuel the car)

Anyway, I'm no economist and I don't know how that's going to play out. But honestly even if it makes it harder to be a van dweller I'm in favor of any legislation that would reduce the amount of fossil fueled cars.
