I do think that Jesus, as portrayed in the gospels, had a lot of good and interesting qualities which ought to be emulated; and I do have more respect for Christians who truly focus on that, rather than the dogma that surrounds it.

That seems to be the recurring problem with religions, though. Someone has good spiritual ideas and then rather than simply following them, people turn them into a maze of dogma and idolize the personality who promoted them.
